Classic Winter Reading

Friday December 22, 2006
It’s the perfect time to curl up by a crackling fire or a glowing tree with a great read. A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens is possibly the best-loved novel and movie of the Christmas season. Sure, you may have seen the movie every year of your entire life, but have you ever read the words? It’s so rewarding and it’s a very different experience from watching a movie. The words take you back to make you feel like you’re there in Old London.

Here’s a sampling:

Sitting-room, bed-room, lumber-room. All as they should be. Nobody under the table, nobody under the sofa; a small fire in the grate; spoon and basin ready; and the little saucepan of gruel (Scrooge has a cold in his head) upon the hob. Nobody under the bed; nobody in the closet; nobody in his dressing-gown, which was hanging up in a suspicious attitude against the wall. Lumber-room as usual. Old fire-guard, old shoes, two fish-baskets, washing-stand on three legs, and a poker.

Already read it? You might be interested in other classics that are perfect for the holiday season.
