The Internet is a wonderful thing, but sometimes we do suffer from information overload. There are times when we just need a hand when it comes to sorting through the mass of information and getting to the real, informative, quality information out there.

Defined as “a non-commercial, educational web site created to promote bioscience literacy,” this site offers articles written by professors and emerging scientists alike. Topics include biotechnology, biodiversity, genomics, evolution, and more. Many articles are offered in Spanish.

Do you sweat the really small stuff? Microbiology concerns microorganisms like bacteria, viruses, and fungi. The site offers reliable microbiology resources with articles and links for deeper study.

Is chocolate produced by microbes? This is a fun and educational site for students. You will be guided around the “Microbe Zoo” to discover the many places where microbes live and work, including the snack bar!

The Biology Project

The Biology Project is a fun, informative site developed and maintained by The University of Arizona. It is an interactive online resource for learning biology. It has been designed for biology students at the college level but is useful for high school students, medical students, physicians, science writers, and all types of interested people. The site advises that “students will benefit from the real-life applications of biology and the inclusion of up-to-date research findings, as well as career options in biology.”

Strange Science

Science doesn’t come easily, and sometimes scientists have had some weird ideas. This site shows some of their most notable mistakes and provides a timeline of important events in scientific discovery. This is a great site for finding background information and adding an interesting element to your paper or project. The site also provides links to other useful resources.
