Single-Sex Classrooms a Good Idea?
In 2006 the U.S. Department of Education changed the rules about same-sex classes, making it easier for public schools to offer all-boy or all-girl classes in an effort to improve the learning environment. The move has prompted an increase in the number of single-sex classes offered across the U.S.
Supporters of single-sex classes claim that students will benefit because they'll be less distracted in the classroom. Critics suggest that the "distraction" argument gives too little credit to serious students. They say that students would benefit more from increased funding for schools, which would provide more teacher training and more modern equipment.
