Are you an aspiring writer? You can earn recognition, prizes, or even money for college through writing competitions. Check out this list of competitions for teens!

  • Written and Illustrated By…: Have you written and illustrated a children’s book? Do you think you could? This contest is for students aged 14 to 19 who have written and illustrated a book for children. The deadline is May 1, 2007.
  • Teen Ink: This competition is for original fiction written by teens. From the site: “Entries of all genres are accepted, whether fantasy, horror, sci-fi or romance. Short stories should be between 500 and 2,500 words.” Deadline is May 1, 2007.
  • The James White Award: This contest is a science fiction short story competition based in Ireland, but it is open to non-professionals of all ages and nationalities. The submission deadline is June 1, 2007.
