SAT Scores Decline

Friday August 31, 2007

Once again, the average scores for students who took the SAT test have dipped, though only by a point or two. This is the second year in a row that scores have declined, according to the College Board. Should we be concerned?

Not just yet. Last year the scores declined, but many say this decline was a result of the extra work that was involved. Students may have been intimidated by the addition of the writing portion of the test. By studying so much for this new requirement, students may have become distracted from studying for the reading and math sections.

What about this year? Records show that more and more students are required to take the test, including many students who are not considering college enrollment. In some states, all students are required to take the SAT, no matter what diploma track they choose or what future plans they have.

What do you think? Are scores dropping because of the factors mentioned above, or is the education system causing the scores to decline? Do you think all students should have to sign up to take the SAT or ACT? We’d like to hear your opinion!

I think class sizes are too big. I didn’t get geometry until I got a tutor who took the time to explain it.

I agree with the person above. Esp. with me. The teachers move at such a fast pace, not giving me enough time to work it out, or work on it for a lil bit. I think i’d do much better if I got a personal tutor.
