Laptop for Every Student?
Imagine a laptop that is so inexpensive that every student could own one. Imagine if that laptop were also more environmentally-friendly than any computer designed before it. Sound impossible? Not according to one scientist. She’s already created it.
This amazing inventor is Mary Lou Jepson, who recently left her position as chief technology office of the One Laptop per Child Foundation. While working there she invented a low-cost laptop that can be produced for around $75. Jepson has now founded a new company called Pixel Qi with a goal of providing computers to even more students around the world.
From the Pixel Qi site:
“Just as mobile phones now have reached billions of users, we can--and perhaps must--enable the fully global reach of computers and Internet access. The open access to knowledge, and global communications that this will enable has the potential to transform many societies--enabling all the world's population to join the Information Age.”
