College Applications Up

Friday January 18, 2008

A report from the New York Times shows that colleges are receiving more applications than ever before. While it’s great that students are eager to advance their studies after high school, it's also important to remember that there's a down side to this development. More applications can mean more competition for that coveted spot on campus. This can lead to more pressure and stress during the senior year.

Why are applications on the rise? Some experts say that students are simply sending out more applications because the online application makes it easy to do so. Instead of sending out one or two applications, students are submitting as many as ten to their schools of choice.

So how can you make your application stand out? Proofread! You won’t believe how many applications are submitted with silly grammar errors. It’s so important to make sure you haven’t made a simple mistake before you submit your application package. Check for subject-verb agreement, spelling mistakes, and word mix-ups.
