Techie Teen Rebels in Cuba
Imagine how you’d feel if someone took away your Internet access. What if you were not allowed to send emails or to use Google? It may be hard for you to imagine, but that is the fate of teenagers in Cuba. But that situation is changing, according to a report in the New York Times, and the change is exasperating Cuban authorities.
Because technology is changing so quickly, and because teens are at the vanguard of technological know-how, the youth in Cuba is carrying out a new kind of rebellion. They are finding ways around the limits on their freedom through technology. Much to the chagrin of officials, Cuban teens are communicating with the rest of the world through black market Internet access and secret web logs.
No one knows how things will work out for the rebel generation in Cuba, but one thing is certain. Techie teens in Cuba are making their mark in the world. What an interesting time to become a young adult! So--the next time you’re up late researching a paper on the Internet, just remember how lucky you really are!
