Nerd Thrills and TOCs

Tuesday May 27, 2008

I don't know about you, but I get a dose of nerd-thrill when I accomplish something on the computer that seems difficult but really isn't. It's especially satisfying when this new thing I've conquered makes my writing 100% better.

One of my favorite accomplishments lately is creating a table of contents. I learned to do this as I was working on my graduate degree, since I had to write several long papers that contained subheadings. I was so surprised to see how easy it was to insert a table of contents (TOC in nerd talk) into my paper, and very pleased to see how much more professional it made my papers look.

Next time you put together a lengthy paper with subtitles, be sure to add a TOC!
