Summer Journal Tips
Thursday May 29, 2008
One of the best things you can do for yourself this summer is to keep a journal of your thoughts and activities. This is a good idea for a few reasons:
- You can experiment by using words and phrases you haven't used before. Nobody will read this but you, so you don't have to be embarrassed by the way it sounds. By going through the process of exploring new phrases and words, you will expand your vocabulary and improve your writing skills.
- By keeping a journal, you will be keeping a record of your summer activities. Chances are good that one of your teachers will ask you to write an essay about your vacation or your travels.
- Journal writing is good therapy. If you are experiencing some difficult relationship issues with siblings or parents (and everybody does at some point) your journal can help you sort through your frustrations. Believe it or not, it is really helpful to have a good conversation with yourself.
- Journal writing is a fun way to exercise your brain.
- Finally, journaling helps you develop organization skills. You will find yourself writing about what you've done and what you plan to do in the future. By tracking your activities like this, you will be building valuable time management skills.
