Fake Colleges and Diploma Mills

Tuesday June 24, 2008

If you are a young adult about to leave high school or in your first year or two of college, you may be tempted to look into a college ad that promises an easier path than the one you currently see ahead of you. This means you could be vulnerable to scams called diploma mills

Diploma mills are shady organizations that look, sound, and act like reputable colleges. They buy ad space on reputable web sites and promise to deliver a degree for very little work from you. The catch? The "degree" is expensive but it's worthless when it comes to real credentials. It is a piece of paper and little else.

You should take the time to read over the traits of a diploma mill and learn to spot one when it shows up in an advertisement. Don't make a mistake that will take years to undo!
