4 Cheap Tools for Getting Organized

Thursday August 14, 2008

You don’t have to spend a fortune to come up with a great organization plan. As a matter of fact, you can spend less than five dollars for each of the items below, and each of these tools can make a huge difference in your school performance!

A big wall calendar, when used in the right way, can put you on the path to success. You’ll never forget another assignment if you use color-coded stickers as visual reminders of assignments due!

The flag pen by Post It© makes it a cinch to organize your notes. It's also a great reading tool.

As you know, you can make a big difference in your homework schedule and find lots of extra social time when you learn to use a planner.

If your play time is short and your homework time seems to take forever, you might need to use a homework timer to keep yourself on track.

These tools are all inexpensive, but they can all pay off in a big way!

A PICNIC TABLEWARE BASKET is quite useful for the student who is always looking for a pencil, tape, index cards, etc. I put everything I could think of that my son would possibly need for a homework assignment/project in one. It has different compartments–so put pencils, markers, scissors, etc. where the silverware would normally go. I have a clip board, packet of lined paper, scrap paper in the section where the paper plates would normally go. Since my son was always coming up with an excuse to disrupt his homework process (I need an eraser, I need tape because I ripped the page, I need this color marker, etc.), I tried to add whatever I could cram into the basket. It took some time to acclimate him to the idea; but now it is a God-send! No more excuses, no more delays–and this is from a child who has executive function issues on top of his other needs. It has also made him more self-reliant and calms his anxiety of “what do I need?” The baskets aren’t too much money and can usually be found during the summer or in craft sections. So worth the money and effort.
