Go to Time Out!

Wednesday August 27, 2008

The brand new school year has arrived, and I hope you’re excited and looking forward to great things to come. I do have a word advice for you as choose your classes, sports, clubs, and other activities. Please don’t over-do it!

As you’re planning your schedule, take care to leave at least one night a week open for your own personal downtime. It may be tempting to play a sport that demands a lot of your time or to sign up to serve as officer of a club or two, but it doesn’t take much to overload your calendar. Your mind and your body need an occasional time out!

  • Choose an extracurricular activity that you can really enjoy to balance the time that you spend doing homework. Be careful not to choose an activity that takes up a lot of time just because you think it will impress college representatives.
  • Make a real effort to get enough sleep. Don’t wait until you’re already sleepy to start your homework.
  • If you can’t take a time out on a week night, be sure to free up one of your weekend nights.
