Many parents are confused about which gadgets are worth the amount they have to dish out for them. After all, we can't buy every product on the market, and there are so many to choose from! But when it comes to the iPod Touch©, there should be no hesitation if you want a gadget that truly helps with homework and assignments.

What Can It Do?

When most parents hear "iPod," they think of little music players. This is much more than an MP3 player. The iPod Touch is really a small computer that does just about everything a laptop could do. With this gadget, kids can go to any web site, research, write papers and submit them via email.

And yes, they can use social networking sites. It really enables them to do anything a bigger computer would do.

The great thing about the small size of the iPod Touch, however, is that students can pull it out anywhere and use it. And with a smaller price tag to go along with its smaller size, parents don't have to worry so much about kids dropping and breaking the tool.

So How Is This Different from a Netbook?

The iPod Touch is much smaller than a netbook, so it's just handy. But it also has the cool factor. And let's face it, students will use it more just because it's cool. I mean, pocket dictionaries are pretty functional, but you don't see students using them on buses and planes. But you will see them pulling out an iPod Touch everywhere.

But that's not the biggest difference. The thing that sets the iPod Touch apart from any other gadget is the educational applications that you can download. The sky is the limit when it comes to applications, and they are so inexpensive!

Applications are downloadable programs, in case you're wondering. You can search and shop for applications right on the gadget under the "Education" category, and find a perfect tool for your specific educational need.

For example, the Flashcard Deluxe program is one single application, but it provides access to flashcards from any school subject from elementary school to college. Again, students can already do this with a netbook, but they are much more likely to practice their flashcards on an iPod.

And there are other applications that will tutor students in specific topics, like art history, math at any level, and chemistry. See a sample list of applications to get an idea of the things you can find. There are even homework reminders on the list!
