Study Group Size:
Large or small
Materials Needed:
index cards
pens and pencils
Time:
5 minutes
Icebreaker Rules:
Each student will think up a question they really would not want to answer in front of a group! They will secretly write the question on an index card and then place all the cards into a pile.
Note: Keep it clean!
Examples:
- Who was your first crush?
- What was your most embarrassing moment?
- What child’s toy do you still play with?
- What’s the dumbest thing you’ve ever done?
Select a student (or teacher) to read the questions one by one. Group members will volunteer to answer questions that other students did not want to answer about themselves! You don’t have to reveal which question you submitted. The fun of this activity is to discover what funny and embarrassing things other students will reveal that you would not!
This activity is good for building confidence and self-esteem. You will find that others are willing to confess things that you might have felt insecure or silly about. It can be refreshing and a real eye-opener to find out that you’re really not so different from others!
It works the other way, too! If you hear a question that reminds you of something silly or funny about yourself, you can feel good about sharing it. In telling your own story, you will know that you may be helping somebody else feel at ease about something.
You can also learn to respect the courage of others from this activity. After all, it does take some guts to admit that you still sleep with a teddy bear!
